@Juan, your explanation of solar as a primary heater in the College’s hybrid pool heating system was most definitely the intended operation.

I would be interested to know if there is a new operator that is unfamiliar to the original design of the system or had misconstrued notions about the performance of solar.

They should heat the pools with the solar collectors to about 80° and use the gas boiler to elevate the temperature even more or maintain it during night hours. This will reduce gas usage and fossil fuel burn, and optimize sun hour utilization. They can also use the redesigned System to teach their students proper renewable energy use.

This solar array heating system is not designed properly because the solar panels are the second heating source and the huge gas boiler (2,000,000 Btu/h) is the primary source. The boiler is working almost all of the time. THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT A SUCCESS STORY. I visited the college on December 6/2011 and the maintenance staff said they are going to redesign the whole thing. the solar heating is not used correctly!!! Juan Pablo Aljure, Bogota, Colombia.

I need to i was a little leary with all the different hype going on around solar. After taking a look at quite a few programs and buy options we thought to make the leap. We ended up getting solar without having money down and immediatly started lowering costs the first month is was installed. I must say that this advantages of solar appear to be real and I am happy we made a decision to proceed with it.
